Last month I recorded a couple of pilot episodes of a new podcast series where I walk around Melbourne with one of the City of Melbourne’s “greeters”, Jill. This is a project cooked up between myself, Tourism Victoria and the City of Melbourne. We’ve recorded two pilots and I’d really appreciate it if a few of you in Melbourne would grab these and do the walk while you listen to the podcast and then give me feedback on how well it works.

The way I’ve edited it, I have deliberately left in the “walk time” between locations and just filled it with some jazz. I’m hoping this prevents people from having to constantly pause the recording. However, if this doesn’t work, let me know.

The two tours are as follows:

Politics, Prostitutes and Poverty

This tour starts at Parliament House on the corner of Spring Street and Collins Street and takes about 80 minutes. You can obviously rest as often as you like by pausing the show and starting it again when you are ready. This tour takes us through the seedy history of Melbourne’s prostitution dens and criminal districts from the 19th century.

Lingering in Laneways

The second tour, “Lingering in Laneways”, starts at Federation Square and also takes about 90 minutes. This tour takes us through some of the laneways of Melbourne that you probably won’t read about in a tourist brochure. Discover hidden bars, shops, restaurants and other Melbourne delights you never knew existed.
